Family garden in Long Ditton

My clients wanted to make much more use of their garden for relaxation, entertaining and recreation. As a young sporty family, they wanted a large level lawn to play ball games and a large terrace to double up as a space for table tennis.

The steeply sloping site was regraded to form two level lawns with a low retaining wall at the bottom. Granite steps lead to the lower lawn which can accommodate a badminton court. The upper level is reached by one of two paths along a bank of mixed planting or through a series of ornamental rose arches. Here we have a new garden shed, raised vegetable beds and a timber tree house. When the planting matures, the upper level will be almost hidden front view and the paths will invite you to explore the garden further.

The new terrace in a smooth mid grey granite creates a large flexible space for dining furniture and in the future, comfy sofas. The outdoor barbecue area has built-in cedar seating and storage space for gas bottles. Planting within the terrace softens the overall look and adds interest.
